Fayetteville High School AP Environmental Science students have been working on a three-year longitudinal project at McNair Middle School to remove invasive species from behind the playground and replace them with native plants. As part of the project, FHS students traveled to McNair and presented their work to the science classes. FHS students gave a brief presentation to each class, and then took the classes outside to show them the invasive plants. There are real educational benefits when students teach students!

McNair Middle School is getting ready for the 2024 Great North American Eclipse on Monday, April 8! McNair Science teacher Mrs. Phillips invited her husband, James Phillips, a graduate teaching assistant in Space and Planetary Sciences at the University of Arkansas, to demonstrate the science behind how an eclipse occurs. Students were engaged and excited to learn more about how the universe operates. Thank you, Mr. Phillips, for sharing your insight, knowledge, and an experience that was OUT OF THIS WORLD!

McNair Middle School students have been dissecting owl pellets in Debra Fox’s classes! Pellets are a record of what owls have eaten, and students can study them to learn more about the owl and the ecosystems in which they live. Owls swallow their food whole, and owl pellets have been regurgitated from the owl's beak. When students dissect owl pellets, they can see and identify the tiny bones from that owl's meal and can learn about the owl's diet and their place in the food web.
